Korčula Island: The Best of Croatia

It is hard to pick the most beautiful places in the world. Even as travellers who have been to many beautiful places we know that there is beauty everywhere. If you sat me down and told me I had to pick; Croatia would always on the list somewhere.

I think it comes down to the memories, beautiful scenery, and the location we chose to visit.

We visited some more touristic areas such as Dubrovnik and felt as though it was over crowded and over done.

This is where Korčula Island comes in. This beautiful island is often skipped in favour of party-centric Havar Island. Korčula is absolutely stunning. Korčula town is a bit touristy but we chose to stay in Lumbarda which made our visit even more special.

We stayed with a woman we found on airbnb.com and right after stepping off the ferry we were greeted by a small jumping lady with a huge sign reading COLIN! She was thrilled to have us stay with her as we were only her second guests.

The apartment itself was basic and everything we needed. The view over local vineyards was just something else.

In Lumbarda we spent a full day hiking around the area. There are two small beaches and many trails through the forest. The area is not busy whatsoever and we never saw a soul while out there.

We found ourselves an alcove to swim and enjoy the crystal clear water and unpolluted surroundings.

It is serene being the only human as far as your eyes can see in the water. It really lets you think about how small you really are!

In our opinion skip Havar and visit Lumbarda, Korčula!
